The 5 ways to Improve Your Heart

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

Is your heart beating like crazy? Are you afraid that if you don't do something about it, it will stop beating forever? Don't worry!

I'm here to help. In this article, I'll share with you some of my favorite ways to improve your heart health. And trust me: these tips are so easy that even a monkey could do them!

Drink red wine in moderation

Red wine

Drinking red wine can be great for your health. It's full of antioxidants, which help protect against heart disease and cancer; resveratrol, a compound found in the skins of grapes, is thought to have antiaging properties. But if you're not careful, red wine can do more harm than good. According to recent studies, drinking too much could increase your odds of developing diabetes or high blood pressure (which increases the risk of stroke).

While some studies suggest that moderate consumption can improve cholesterol levels and reduce blood pressure slightly—and therefore decrease your risk for heart disease—the data are mixed: Some researchers believe that certain nutrients found in red wine may help prevent cardiovascular disease; others argue that moderate amounts may actually increase it. If you want to drink alcohol at all (which we don't think is necessary), stick with one glass per day—and know that this recommendation applies only when you're already eating healthy fats like nuts and avocado as part of a well-balanced diet.

Small glass of red wine over white is good for you

White Wine

If you're looking to improve your heart health and prevent diseases like atherosclerosis and diabetes, look no further than a glass of red wine over white. A study published in the journal Molecules found that red wine contains more antioxidants than white wine. The antioxidants protect against heart disease and cancer by neutralizing free radicals—which are molecules that damage cells and DNA—and preventing blood clotting.

In addition, resveratrol is another important compound found in red grapes (as well as other foods like peanuts), which may also help prevent heart disease by lowering blood pressure and keeping your arteries flexible.

Don't drink too much alcohol

There are many reasons why people drink too much alcohol, but the good news is that you can avoid these problems by simply reducing your intake. Alcohol has been shown to cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, liver disease and cancer in addition to depression and sleep problems. While these effects might seem milder than an outright heart attack or stroke due to alcohol abuse (which actually has a higher mortality rate than smoking), they can lead to other health issues down the line as well.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best ways to improve your heart health. It can be done in any way, as long as it's done regularly and with enough intensity to raise your heart rate and make you breathe harder. Exercise can be done with a partner or group, or solo—either way, it'll be good for your body!

Some great types of exercise include walking, jogging (or running if you're feeling adventurous), swimming and dancing—basically anything that gets your heart pumping. If you have an elevated risk for diabetes or high blood pressure (or are at risk because someone else in your family has these conditions), talk with a doctor before starting an exercise routine if you haven't already started one.

Eat tart cherries

Eat tart cherries

You can improve your heart health by eating tart cherries, which are rich in anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-viral and even anti-bacterial agents. They’ve been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer as well as other degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's.

The good news is that these powerful antioxidants thrive on our bodies when we eat foods like tart cherries that contain them in high concentrations.

I hope that you found the information in this article useful. If not, then at least you know now why red wine is good for you. You should try drinking it more often, and if that doesn't work out (because let's face it -- sometimes things don't go our way), then at least you'll have some other ideas to fall back on!
