SlimFast Diet

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

SlimFast is a brand of meal replacement shakes, bars, snacks and diet plans that was created by Unilever in 1977.

The SlimFast diet plan consists of replacing any two meals with shakes, bars or cookies, eating one portion-controlled healthy meal of choice, and consuming three 100-calorie snacks in between. It's not the only diet that advocates this approach; EatRight by Jenny Craig also uses meal replacements as part of its program for weight loss.

The dieter should drink a shake three times a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For example:

  • Meal 1: Shake for breakfast and snack

  • Meal 2: Healthy meal from the approved list and snack

  • Meal 3: Shake on its own or combined with an approved bar or cookie

Drinking SlimFast shakes three times a day is not recommended

SlimFast was created for people who are trying to lose weight, but drinking these shakes three times a day may not be the best way to go about it. Drinking more than one shake in a

24-hour period can lead to an unhealthy increase in caloric intake and can also cause your body to go into starvation mode while you're trying to lose weight. Instead of drinking the shakes three times per day, try eating healthy foods that are low in calories and high in fiber so that you feel full longer.

The SlimFast shakes are fortified with vitamins and minerals, which vary from product to product.

One of the biggest reasons people get into trouble with weight loss is that they don’t know how to eat right. The SlimFast shakes are fortified with vitamins and minerals, which vary from product to product. These nutrients are important for health because they help your body function properly.

This means that if you don’t get enough, you could have trouble keeping up with daily activities or even simple tasks like walking up stairs without getting winded.

Vitamins and minerals play an important role in metabolism—the process of breaking down food into energy—and also regulate hormone production, so it’s crucial to get enough of them every day (about 20% of what we need comes from diet). They can be found in fruits and vegetables as well as meat products such as eggs or milk (although some vitamins are more absorbable when consumed through plant sources).

Studies suggest that substituting a meal replacement for one or two meals a day may help you lose weight, although it doesn't seem to be more effective than traditional dieting.

Meal replacements are pre-packaged foods such as shakes, bars, soups and frozen entrees that contain fewer calories than regular meals. In general, research has found limited or no evidence that meal replacements lead to long-term weight loss.

For example, in one study published in the journal Obesity Research & Clinical Practice in 2010, researchers randomly assigned 124 overweight adults to either receive counseling on their diet and exercise habits while eating their usual foods or participate in counseling while following the SlimFast Diet Plan™ until they lost 10% of their body weight (about 15 pounds). After 16 weeks on either program, both groups experienced similar improvements in cardiovascular risk factors (such as cholesterol levels) and reduced waist circumference compared with baseline measures; however there were no differences between groups at any time point during follow-up.

A SlimFast diet plan is an easy way to control your weight. In fact, it's been called the "simplest weight loss plan on Earth" by some. With shakes, bars and cookies that are all under 200 calories each, you could potentially eat up to six times a day without going over your daily caloric budget.

But don't be fooled into thinking that these meal replacements are healthy—they're not! There are many other products out there with similar claims that may actually contain fewer calories than what you'd find in SlimFast products but they don't claim any health benefits because they're not supposed to replace meals like this one does."
