Sirtfood Diet

Updated: Aug 5, 2022

If you have ever heard of the Sirtfood Diet, then it's time to learn what it is and how it works. The word sirtuin refers to a specific class of enzymes called sirtuins. These enzymes are found in foods that contain polyphenols, which play an important role in preventing cell damage and aging by stimulating mitochondria function.

What are sirtfoods?

Sirtfoods are plant-based foods that contain sirtuin activators—antioxidants that help maintain the body’s immune system and keep it young. Many people these days are turning to the diet to enjoy a healthier lifestyle, while also increasing their lifespan. The main sources of sirtuin activators are kale, strawberries (with seeds), red wine (in moderation), soy and extra virgin olive oil. This diet is rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C, B12; minerals like zinc and iron; fibers; beans; blueberries etc...

What can I eat on the Sirtfood Diet?

The Sirtfood diet is a way of eating that focuses on including foods with compounds called "sirtuin activators", which help to boost the activity of your body's sirtuin genes. The sirtuin family consists of seven different enzymes, with each one responsible for carrying out different functions within your cells.

The Sirtfood diet was created by Dr. Sinclair and his team at the University of Oxford in 2006. This diet combines elements from other popular diets such as Paleo (which restricts grains and dairy) and Ancel Keys' Mediterranean Diet (which emphasizes fresh produce). This diet was designed to promote longevity through the activation of certain genes that are thought to play an important role in aging processes in humans, as well as preventing chronic diseases such as cancer or diabetes.

There are several foods that contain sirtuin activators; these include: green tea extract, red wine (in moderation), dark chocolate, walnuts/almonds/peanuts/cashews, olives/avocados/olive oil etc... The following foods do NOT contain these compounds but they may still be considered as part of your daily intake: fruits & vegetables (excluding citrus fruits), eggs & fish (wild-caught only), legumes like chickpeas & lentils etc...
