Why do it?
The practice of meditation has been shown to improve overall health and well-being. It can help you feel more in control of your life, more in touch with your body and emotions, and less stressed out. Meditation is a great way to relax because it trains the mind to stay calm even when experiencing stressful situations or thoughts (like worrying about work).
How to meditate...
Meditation is a practice that helps you clear your mind and focus on one thing. To get started with meditation, sit in a comfortable position that allows you to sit up straight without slouching. You can either sit cross-legged on the floor or use a chair. If you're using a chair, don't put your feet up on the seat of the chair—this is disrespectful; keep them flat on the ground or rest them against it lightly for support (like how someone would hold their hand against a wall).
Close your eyes and focus on taking slow, deep breaths into your nose and out through your mouth. Try not to think about anything else but this task; if thoughts occur in your mind that distract from this goal (such as "What if I fall asleep?", "My back hurts", etc.), don't worry about getting rid of them immediately—just acknowledge them by saying something like "I noticed my foot twitching" or "That's weird," then go back to focusing on breathing until those thoughts have passed before continuing again with whatever activity was being practiced beforehand (for example: sitting quietly without moving/talking/making any noise).
The aim here is not necessarily silence—it's more important that there are no distractions preventing us from concentrating fully so we can achieve our goals than anything else! This means making sure there aren't any sounds coming from outside sources such as traffic noises outside windows or televisions blaring somewhere nearby; also try turning off phones so they won't ring while trying this exercise! And make sure there aren't any lights shining brightly into eyes either--you want peace & quiet :)

Meditation tips for beginners
Meditation is a skill, and like any other skill you may have learned in the past, it takes practice. If you don’t get it right the first time, that’s completely normal and nothing to worry about. You might fall asleep or be distracted by thoughts. You might feel frustrated when your mind won’t stop jumping around or bored because nothing is happening. It's fine to feel any of these things during meditation—they're all an expected part of the process!
Once you become comfortable with sitting still for ten minutes (or more), try adding some guided meditations into your daily practice as well as using apps like Headspace or Calm to help guide through some basic techniques such as focusing on breathing or observing emotions without getting caught up in them.
